I was born in Chengdu, China and grew up in Mississippi and Tennessee, the daughter of immigrants. Childhood was a blend of contrasts, and reading was my refuge. I remember spending hours at the library, arms filled with gateways to other worlds. It wasn’t until many years (and two degrees in economics) later that I realized maybe I could tell stories, too.
Since then, I’ve followed my love of storytelling, producing media for organizations including the World Bank, ABC News and Twitter. In 2020, I co-founded Xerophile Studios, a full-service production company whose clients have included Supermajority, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the IRC.
My latest film, La Orquesta, premiered at the DC/DOX Film Festival and went on to screen at DOC NYC, the New Orleans Film Festival and Montclair Film Festival, among others. It will premiere later this year on PBS as part of POV Shorts Season 8.
I'm a proud member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, the Asian American Documentary Network, and BIPOC Doc Editors.
I’m drawn to stories that illuminate communities on the margins and art that strives to make sense of a sometimes incomprehensible world.
